Helpful  Resources

http://scioly.org/wiki/index.php/SciOly_FAQ

This website has numerous tests, sample questions, helpful information, etc. I highly recommend this website!  Making an account for this website isn't necessary, unless you would like to get notifications, or add questions to the quizzes.

This link is the national homepage for Science Olympiad. There are some " Quick Links" about events, rules, and all that jazz. And keep aware that you can access any Science Olympiad products from their store, which you can find on the webpage.

What is SciOly?

Science Olympiad provides middle and high school students opportunities to compete in various science and engineering events. Our competitions are like academic track meets, consisting of a series of 23 team events for students that reflect the ever changing nature of technology and all science disciplines. Events range from building weight-bearing devices to identifying common chemical compounds. Some events are knowledge-based while others focus on performance and/or teamwork. Students experience real world science applications while building relations with teachers, parents, students, community members, college scouts, and professionals in science and engineering.

Types of events:

There are three kinds of events:

  • Build-it events– you build a structure or device, take it into the tournament and test it against other students’ creation. Build-it events usually require financial commitment from parents.
  • Study-it events– you prepare for a test much like a classroom paper-and-pencil test, often with an additional hands-on component
  • Practice-it events– you practice with possible materials on possible problems within a realm of problems, then use your wits at the competition when you get the real problem

Keep in mind that the majority of SciOly event preparation takes place at home, working with your partners/team mates, outside of the school day.

Tournaments are on Saturdays!

If you cannot commit to these dates you are not eligible for Science Olympiad. Please check your family schedules.

  • December 10, 2016 -  SW Regional “B” Invitational Tournament 8am-5pm @ CHS (Saturday)
